Doxy PEP and STI Program Letters
The country continues to experience an increase in STIs, which has significantly impacted people with HIV. HRSA HAB released a new program letter that provides information on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) new clinical guidelines on the use of doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis (doxy PEP) for the prevention of bacterial STIs.

SAMHSA also issued a Dear Colleague Letter to alert grantees about the updated CDC doxy PEP clinical guideline and to provide guidance on the use of grant funds to incorporate doxy PEP into SAMHSA-supported work. Doxy PEP is a novel use of an STI medication for prevention that has demonstrated effectiveness in reducing the incidence of bacterial STIs (specifically syphilis, chlamydia, or gonorrhea) in certain populations. FREE digital graphics and videos from KFF’s Together Greater Than are available to support your outreach about this new STI prevention tool.
